Two Things To Consider When Purchasing A New Fleet Of Service Bodies For Repair Technicians

Nevaeh Graves

In the world of a repair technician, few things will be as important as their service body, sometimes referred to as a utility truck. The ideal truck is one that is designed with both efficiency and functionality in mind. If you're a new business owner on the hunt for your first fleet of service bodies, here are just two of the factors you want to keep in mind along your search.

Storage Needs

One of the factors that makes service bodies so useful is the ability to store much of your equipment and materials inside. Since the storage configurations on these trucks vary greatly, it's important to determine your specific need before making a selection. You can accomplish this by creating a list of all the equipment and materials you want to have on hand inside the truck. Next to each item, denote its diameter or thickness, its weight and the minimum quantity you plan to have on hand at all times. For example, ten, one-inch copper pipes.

Having this information helps ensure you choose a unit that has both the space and payload capacity you need. Additionally, since service bodies have both inside and outside storage features, you want to take a few moments to consider where you want to store these items. This will help ensure you aren't left with too much interior storage and not enough exterior storage, or vice versa.

Driving Conditions

Consider the service areas that your service bodies will frequently be traveling to. This will help you determine whether or not you need to look for a unit that has four-wheel drive or another modification that will better equip it for off-road conditions, such as a spring-mounted body kit.

For example, an HVAC team primarily servicing a metropolitan area won't have the same needs as a team that works in a primarily rural area and often has to travel along dirt or gravel roads. Although the off-road feature will increase the cost of the truck, it's much better to pay extra now than to have to pay to have your trucks towed because they get stuck on a regular basis.

The purchase of new service bodies isn't exactly a cost you want to incur on a regular basis. For this reason, it's important to take your time during your search to ensure you are making a selection that will meet your needs today as well as into the future. About Me
Making the Best of Heavy Construction Equipment in the Area

Hiya! My name is Mitch Flanders. I work in construction where I have the great pleasure of running heavy equipment. I love my work, but I know for fact that those who live and work in the areas where I’m working don’t love me so much. I do have empathy for those folks. After all, my heavy equipment is noisy. When people complain, and they do, I try to help give them some suggestions on how to deal with the noise and mess us construction crews make. I always suggest that they get creative and make the best out of the disturbances. They can create betting games out of how many hours a day or week we are going to be disturbing them. Make it fun among the family or co-workers. I’m going to share more with you here, and hope you find it of interest.
